Taking a leap into her restaurant management career, 22-year-old Christa Freeman decided to seize an opportunity available to her back in October.
While working one door over at the Oeno Wine Lounge, Freeman learned the previous owners of the Juice Pub and Eatery placed the business up for sale. Having spent nearly two years working under them, Freeman knew there was the chance to take over a business with an established customer base and avoid starting one from scratch once she graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in hotel and restaurant management.
“When I was just an employee here, I actually wanted to buy in,” Freeman said. “I offered that to them multiple times, but I think they were already on their way out, so they probably didn’t want to make it more complicated. I only really left them because for my major I should start learning new things — I didn’t really know what I was going to be doing.”
Freeman said she was certain of at least one thing upon her graduation from NAU: she wanted to stay in Flagstaff. Born in Austin, Texas, before primarily growing up in Kentucky, Freeman also lived in Phoenix and New Mexico before graduating from high school in Las Vegas.
“I feel like people my age, once they go off to college they want to travel and see everything,” she said. “I sort of had that at a younger age, and now it’s like I found my place I want to call home and not keep moving for a little while.”
Describing Flagstaff as an awesome city with great people, the outdoors influence was perfect for Freeman considering she comes from a family that enjoys mountain biking and rock climbing. In fact, Freeman landed at NAU in part because her sister attended the university, providing an opportunity for her to be familiar with the city before enrolling. While her current major was also a natural fit, with NAU’s Hotel and Restaurant Management program being nationally recognized, it was not her initial plan when relocating from Las Vegas to Flagstaff.
Originally intending to major in dental hygiene, Freeman spent two years in the program before making the switch. Realizing that she had loved working in her restaurant and bar jobs over the years, Freeman jumped to hotel and restaurant management, which set in motion the takeover of the Juice Pub and Eatery this past October.
Convincing her parents, sister and grandparents of her dream, she avoided having to work closely with a bank as the family made it a collaborative effort. From there, it’s been Freeman who has begun to implement her vision on the business over the past four months.
Overseeing some minor renovations to the interior, Freeman’s goal is to offer up the Juice Pub and Eatery as a comfortable place to enjoy a meal in addition to the coffee and juices on the menu.

Morning Glory Café was established in 1985 by Maria Ruiz. A local icon, Maria was known for her healing food, wisdom and humour. She nourished the community through her passion for organic whole foods cuisine. She believed that food is medicine and remained devoted to using simple, quality, whole food ingredients and creating healthy versions of family recipes from New Mexico like blue corn tamales and red Chile. She was also a visionary who recognized hemp seed as a superfood early on, inventing Morning Glory’s Hemp Burger in 1990. The cosy kitchen made you feel at home and each plate was served with an extra side of wit and compassion. The ripples of her Love still spread throughout the Universe and her Legacy of Conscious Cooking continues here today. We are honoured to carry on her passion for preparing nourishing whole foods while creating positive group dynamics and creating as little waste as possible. Thank you for supporting local, sustainable, small business and our legacy of love here at Morning Glory Café. As Maria would say….. Peace, Love and Ten Thousand times Ten Thousand Blessings.

Wildflower’s legacy is one of excellence, innovation and unwavering community commitment. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain dedicated to serving exceptional food in a welcoming atmosphere, always putting our guests first. Whether it is the first visit or the hundredth, we invite all to experience the warmth and flavor that defines Wildflower.
In 1996, the Basile Family embarked on a flavorful journey, establishing their first location in Scottsdale, Arizona. With the introduction of their signature Potato Cream Cheese Soup, a dish that continues to delight palates in 2024, the foundation of something extraordinary was set.
By 1999, the breakfast menu was unveiled, with Lemon Ricotta pancakes quickly stealing the show and becoming a timeless favorite. The Wildflower team celebrated reaching 100 enthusiastic team members, affectionately called “Breadheads.”
The new millennium brought catering services and the Sourdough Soup Bread Boule, a perfect blend of comfort and innovation. Expansion continued, and by 2002, the team grew to 200 Breadheads. A year later, the Bread of the Month program emerged, offering unique monthly creations.
Innovation flourished in 2004 as free customer Wi-Fi, Wildflower gift cards, and the now-iconic Sour Cream Pecan Coffee Cake were introduced. By 2005, the Neighborhood Nights program and a seasonal menu debuted, featuring the Turkey Cranberry Walnut Stuffing Sandwich—a perennial favorite.
As the years passed, Wildflower embraced variety and creativity. Cupcakes joined the menu in 2006, while a Central Production Facility opened in 2007 to elevate efficiency. Partnerships with local schools brought “Dough on the Go” to life, and Rice Krispy Treats made their sweet debut.
The Wildflower Brand Promise launched in 2009, followed by more culinary hits like the Chopped Salad and Cheddar Braised Beef sandwich in 2010. Pie of the Month programs were established in 2011, and the commitment to values, purpose, and creating safe spaces was solidified.
Milestones continued to roll in. In 2013, the Triple Club sandwich became a beloved option, and charitable efforts raised $48,000 for the Wildflower Cares Foundation. By 2014, the Wildflower Reuben entered the scene, and the team swelled to 600 Breadheads.
The next decade celebrated remarkable achievements like the National Restaurant Neighborhood Award and AZ Business Magazine’s Most Admired Company title during Wildflower’s 20th anniversary in 2016. By 2017, Mac & Cheese joined the menu, and the Wildflower Brand Essence—Unexpected, Elevated, Ardor, Thoughtful—was introduced. Over 3,000 positive guest comments poured in.
From launching delivery and loyalty programs to introducing innovative dishes like Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches and Brown Sugar Oatmeal Pancakes, Wildflower consistently evolved. By 2021, the 25th anniversary was marked with a generous donation to St. Vincent De Paul. In 2023, Wildflower achieved recognition as the Best in the Desert across 21 categories while enhancing locations in Seville and Goodyear.
Throughout the years, Wildflower grew into a symbol of culinary artistry and community spirit, driven by innovation, heartfelt connections, and a dedication to delighting their guests.
