Celebrating over four decades of creative expression, Art/Place Gallery is a not-for-profit, artist-run collective located in the heart of downtown Fairfield, Connecticut. Since its founding in 1981 in the historic Southport Railroad Station, the gallery has endured, even after the original site was lost to fire in 2008. Today, we proudly call 70 Sanford Street, within Fairfield’s thriving Arts District and alongside the Fairfield Theatre Company, our home.
Our mission is to cultivate an inclusive and dynamic space where both professional and emerging artists can create, exhibit, and grow without the commercial pressures of traditional galleries. Members are encouraged to explore a wide array of media and subject matter, fostering innovation and experimentation.
Art/Place is deeply connected to the local community through rotating solo and group exhibitions, artist talks, demos, lectures, workshops, and critiques. We’ve had the honor of welcoming esteemed guest artists such as Sol LeWitt, Gabor Peterdi, Antonio Frasconi, and James Grashow, and our popular “Artists Invite Artists” series continues to spotlight new perspectives.
Our members’ work spans oils, acrylics, watercolors, photography, printmaking, collage, and digital media. We open our doors to educators and institutions for collaborative learning experiences, offer high school internships, and actively seek new opportunities to engage and inspire our broader community.
At Art/Place Gallery, creativity is our common language, and the door is always open.
At Art/Place Gallery, we are committed to fostering creativity and enriching the local art scene through a variety of vibrant programs and community-focused offerings:
