1. The Yard

As a former college football player, weightlifting had been a fundamental part of Joe Cicero’s life for over 20 years. However, he noticed that at most commercial gyms, the most crucial equipment (i.e., the barbell and rack) were often unavailable, causing him to anxiously wait for access or rush through his workouts for whoever was waiting on him. That’s why he founded The Yard, one of the best gyms in the Bay Area, where members and trainers have their own equipment and can be more efficient with their workouts than ever before.

Our Space
When you Go Yard, you’re reserving exclusive hourly access to our workout pods equipped with your very own rack, plates, bench, and dumbbells with fan bikes and rowers near each station. We also offer a common area with all the other kettlebells and whistles you’d hope for.

Never Share Equipment Again
At The Yard, we understand that fitness is deeply personal, which is why we offer a gym experience unlike any other. Our private workout pods, group classes, personal training, and online coaching cater to individual needs and help our members achieve their fitness goals. Come join us and experience the unparalleled support and resources that we provide to help you reach your fitness potential.#

Trainers
Personal trainers can elevate their clients’ experience in our exclusive private fitness pods. By reserving these dedicated spaces, our Bay Area trainers can focus on delivering customized workout plans in a distraction-free environment.

2. Live Fit Gym

San Francisco’s leading wellness-driven fitness club, integrating evidence-based training, recovery, & holistic health services under one roof. Founded 25+ years ago as a humble chiropractic office in the Mission District, we have grown into eight premier locations across San Francisco, each designed to transform lives through Integrative Fitness™.

As the only doctor-owned gym in San Francisco, we believe fitness is more than just lifting weights—it’s about longevity, recovery, & a science-backed approach to movement and wellness. Our members come here not just to train but to heal, recover, & perform at their best.

We believe movement is medicine.™ Movement physically, movement towards your goals, movement towards optimum health & wellness.

Our philosophy? Integrative Fitness™—the intelligent combination of fitness & wellness.

WHat is Integrative fitness™?
Integrative Fitness™ is a results-driven approach that combines strength training, functional movement, recovery, & holistic wellness to create a sustainable path to optimal health. Unlike conventional fitness programs that focus solely on exercise, Integrative Fitness™ bridges the gap between training & recovery—ensuring that the body not only performs at its best but also heals, adapts, & thrives.

Focused on helping you excel and functioning at your optimal best. Helping you do & achieve the things you love in life.

This model is built on the principle that fitness is not just about aesthetics or isolated workouts, but about enhancing movement quality, preventing injuries, & supporting longevity. By integrating evidence-based recovery methods such as chiropractic care, physical therapy, and massage with progressive strength and conditioning, Integrative Fitness™ helps individuals build strength, improve mobility, and optimize their overall well-being.

We’re that gym that cares more than you just working out in our gyms. We’re thinking about you every step of the way–on your individual unique path of fitness & wellness.

3. Hit Fit SF

This was started by Simon Redmond, our resident Irishman, and 1999 Golden Gloves Champ. Before opening Hit Fit SF Simon co founded 3rd St Boxing Gym in 2003. Hoping for something bigger and better he broke away and later, opened Polk St. Boxing Gym in 2007. Polk St. Gym eventually outgrew its space and a bigger location was needed.

He decided to rebrand as Hit Fit SF, and the Mission gym opened its doors in 2014. Hit Fit SF Nob Hill followed in 2015, in a new bigger space on Sutter Street, just a few blocks away from the original Polk St. Gym.

Not only is Hit Fit SF a place to workout, it’s a place to meet training partners, make friends and hang out.

So if you’re looking for the best workouts in SF and a community of “friendly bad asses”, Hit Fit SF is the place for you!

4. FITNESS SF

Our journey began with a shared passion between two brothers, Zsolt and Sebastyen Jackovics.

What started as a personal commitment to health and wellness has blossomed into a collective of vibrant locations across the Bay Area.

Their inspiration has guided us to prioritize health and well-being in our lives and the lives of those we serve.

Our 3 Pillars of Wellness
Physical

This pillar encompasses the harmony of active movement, proper nutrition, and restful sleep. It’s about nurturing your body to thrive.

Mental

We emphasize emotional awareness, balance, and readiness to face life’s challenges. It’s about nurturing your mind.

Social

Building connections, a sense of belonging, and a robust support system are the essence of this pillar. It’s about nurturing your community.

We may not have the power to lift everything, but together, we can lift each other.
So, envision a world where everyone prioritizes their well-being.

While achieving perfection may remain an elusive goal, striving for a better world is within our grasp. If everyone embraced the gym, the world would undoubtedly become a better place to live.
Join us in this inspiring journey towards a healthier and more vibrant community. It begins with you.
